The three-cylinder, known as the HR12DDR, uses direct injection, variable valve timing, low-friction treatments on internal components, and a stop-start function. But the most important feature of the HR12DDR is that it runs on the Miller cycle, a little-known combustion cycle last seen in the United States in 2002.
