2011 Dodge Durango

2011 Dodge Durango

Not a lot is known about the new Durango yet, but the minisite's photos and that positioning statement, along with the fact the vehicle will be built on the same platform as the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, provide some strong clues as to what we can expect.

The exterior images that have been released so far show a streamlined exterior with a powerful hood that points toward an aggressive, "hunkered-down" stance, and that will be emphasized by a relatively high beltline. That latter design cue is used to strong but subtle effect on the Jeep, so leveraging it in the Dodge is a natural choice. A relatively low ride height might get thrown into the mix as well, since Dodge has already explicitly stated the Durango isn't aiming to provide the same kind of extensive off-road capabilities as the Grand Cherokee.

And that could be an important key to the Durango's success, since it will further differentiate the Dodge from both its sibling and the rest of the competition.

2011 Dodge Durango

Among the first moves: A Dodge Durango "minisite" is now up at www.dodge.com/2011durango/ to provide a sneak peak at what the company is calling its "three-row performance SUV."

New 2012 Chrysler 300

New 2012 Chrysler 300

For 2012 Chrysler has stepped up to the plate and given the big sedan a refresh. No official photos have been released yet, but thanks to Autoblog.com, who recently posted some spy photos

New 2012 Chrysler 300

The Chrysler 300 first hit showroom floors in late 2004 where it became an instant success amongst car fans and dealers. It had a low-slung chopped roof line and was aggressively styled with design elements reminiscent of cars from the late 1960′s and early 1970′s. It was big, comfortable and was equipped with 3 different engine choices. A 250 hp V6, a 350 hp 5.7-liter V8 or the 6.1-liter 425 hp Hemi, which was released in 2006 as part of the SRT-8 performance package. The Chrysler 300 has now been around for six years and although over 350,000 have been sold the car is beginning to get a bit long in the tooth.

Ford And Chrysler Recall Vehicles

Together, Ford and Chrysler have announced they will recall more than 55,000 vehicles.

Ford will recall 33,700 units of its Transit Connect small commercial vans due to a defective interior liner that fails to meet any of the safety requirements for head protection. The faulty vehicles had been manufactured between December 2008 and May of this year. The automaker will ask its dealers to stop selling the vehicles until the problem is fixed.

Chrysler, on the other hand, will recall 22,000 units of its SUV lines — Jeep Liberty, Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro — and Ram 1500 trucks. The vehicles, manufactured between April and May this year, have defective brake tubes that are causing the brake fluid to leak. The automaker has also decided to halt sales of the vehicles until this is taken care of.

To be presented in Brilliant Black and a choice of accent colors Mopar Blue, Red or Silver, the car would come across as an absolute headturner. Born out of the link up between Chrysler and Dodge, the Mopar 2010 Challenger will sport 20-inch glossy black forged wheels, a black chrome grille, leather-wrapped steering wheel and Katzkin leather seats that add to the charm.

For the automatic models, the car will come with Mopar T-handle shifter and pistol grip shifter for manual transmissions. In a bid to cheer customers, Chrysler will also give away certificates and a limited-edition sketch signed by Mark Trostle, Chrysler’s design chief.

Chrysler’s New Logo Gets Patent Approval

Chrysler’s New Logo Gets Patent Approval

Chrysler and Fiat CEO, Sergio Marchionne, revealed the company’s 5-year product plan. Marchionne describes the moment as being the “first day of a new Chrysler.”

Among the massive changes, there will be a new logo to work alongside product refreshes in changing brand associations in the minds of consumers. The logo that has been in use since the mid-90s was streamlined, moving the ‘Chrysler’ lettering from above the wings to at their heart within a new blue block central to the design.

Chrysler Plans Facelifts

Chrysler

Chrysler and Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne is preparing to present his so-called Five Year Plan to the company's board on Friday. Part of the plan is to revamp five current Chrysler models by 2011, including the Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan, Dodge Caliber, Jeep Compass, and Jeep Patriot. Products currently in the pipeline include the new Chrysler 300 and Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Fiat 500 minicar will bow in the U.S. in 2011.

A facelift usually takes two to three years to complete, but Marchionne is set on having the projects done within 18 months. To hurry the redesigns, engineers and designers are expected to put in as much overtime as needed to complete the task on schedule.

Chrysler Is Pairing Up With Fiat

Chrysler has seen its share of tough times. First it was bought by German company Daimler, after falling behind its competitors GM and Ford. Then the Daimler-Chrysler relationship disintegrated and Daimler sold Chrysler to a holding company. Chrysler already filed Chapter 11 once, and there was recent talk of a second bankruptcy.

However, with the auto bailout package passed and Chrysler receiving essential loan money, it’s determined to turn around and regain an advantage on its publicly owned domestic competitors GM and Ford. Today it announced a big new partnership that will take many by surprise. Chrysler is pairing up with Fiat.

But a tie-up also could be a huge winner for Fiat, which has been angling to get its phenomenally popular 500 model, as well as the stylish Alfa Romeo luxury brand, to American consumers for years. Chrysler's infrastructure could allow the Italian company to do that on the cheap.

Nissan To Supply Chrysler With Small Cars

Chrysler logo

Chrysler said Nissan will supply it with two small cars, a version of the Versa to be sold in South America, and another small car that would be sold in North America.

In turn, Chrysler, which is also building a minivan for Volkswagen, will supply Nissan with a small pickup, the newspaper reported.

"In the next five to 10 years, I see more consolidation in every region of the world … especially among suppliers," said Tom LaSorda, Chrysler's vice chairman and president.
