PICK UP



Clocking 0-60 kmph in amazing 5 seconds, the Unicorn boasts the best pick up in its class. With a powerful 13.3 bhp engine and loaded with cutting edge technologies like CV Carburetor, 2-way air jacket, Pulse Exhaust system and Offset Crank, this mean machine delivers power at all speed ranges and under varied heat conditions. So, just sit back and relax while you zoom off to your destination.
Honda develops a brand new engine for Unicorn with several cutting edge technologies, in order to meet Indian user’s need of good initial and overtaking pick up. The power delivery suits best the daily needs like multiple riding and climbing flyovers or inclines with ease.
Constant Vacuum Carburetor ensures smooth and adequate power delivery through controlled supply of fuel in accordance with the throttle opening. As a result it is possible to achieve smooth riding performance even at the time of sudden opening or closing of throttle by the user.
2-way Air Jacket divides the air passage into two streams creating maximum cooling effect within the cylinder. As a result, it avoids performance loss in high heat conditions and maintains a stable pick up all through by effective cooling.

MILEAGE




The Unicorn delivers an incredible 60 kms to a litre with its aerodynamic body and a newly developed engine from Honda that develops high torque at a low rpm. With technologies like 5 Speed Gear Box, Roller Rocker Arm and Multi-Mapping, the Unicorn is engineered to ensure a perfect balance of Pick Up and Mileage.
Depending upon the throttle condition which in turn increases or decreases engine rpm, ignition timing is set in order to maintain efficient combustion. This is achieved by multi mapping CDI. This not only improves mileage but creates ‘spare power’, resulting in higher power at all speed range.

Gears of Unicorn are set at 9% higher range as against models in 150cc class. As a result higher gear can be used at relatively lower driving speeds. As the Unicorn engine develops good torque in low and mid speed range, it can get higher speed at lower rpm. This contributes to better fuel economy.

The new engine features a tumble flow combustion chamber, which maximizes tumble (vertical swirl) of the air-fuel mixture from the intake valve to the cylinder. This maximization makes it possible to burn leaner air-fuel mixture efficiently.

Friction loss in engine revolutions are reduced by equipping Rocker arms with rollers, where they come in contact with the camshaft. This technology not only helps in improving mileage but also aids in smooth and better power output.

RIDING COMFORT




Unicorn offers superior riding comfort and driving stability in various Indian usage and driving conditions in both single and multiple ride patterns


Light weight & tougher advanced design diamond frame ideally suits to variable loading and driving conditions of India. Unicorn adapts advanced design diamond frame with engine as stressed member. Frame is designed specially to adapt to mono suspension. Character of this frame is to ensure high toughness with adequate flexibility in order to offer good stability in harsh and daily use conditions.

Instead of conventional twin shock absorbers in the rear, Unicorn incorporates a single, high performance shock absorber housed centrally below the seat and mounted on a much tougher frame. Advanced technology mono suspension coupled with advanced tough and flexible diamond frame offers superior riding comfort and excellent stability


There are two merits of introducing mono suspension. Firstly, it decreases friction loss through employing single shocker. As a result mono suspension can move freely, improving tractability on road surface. User can derive the benefit of more comfortable ride feel. Secondly, mono suspension design ensures centralisation of mass. New Improved Hydraulic front disc brake provides efficient braking performance in all weather conditions. Braking force distribution between the front disc and rear drum brake is also optimised in order to ensure stability at high speed, providing the user a superior feel and confidence with the machine.
Unicorn rider does not have to be in hunched position while riding and can ride in an unstrained natural posture without back pain. Pillion rider’s leg position on Unicorn is nearer to hip and is more comfortable. Moreover Unicorn seat has more space in between the rider and the pillion, giving them both more flexibility in seating.
With smooth seat to tank profile, flexible seating position, ample foot space for double riding, Unicorn takes care of riding comfort for both rider and pillion. Newly developed Honda engine achieves low vibration level without the need of using a balancer. Rubber mount on handle reduces vibration at handle and maximises riding comfort even further. Unicorn tank to seat flow line is smoother. As a result rider doesn’t need to be anxious of hitting the tank on braking.

CONVENIENCE




The Unicorn comes with a multitude of conveniences. It is the only motorcycle in India that comes equipped with a Puncture Resistant Tuff-up tube in the rear tyre which minimizes the incidents of sudden puncture by 70%, state-of-the-art Primary kick, and storage space under the seat. So, once you ride the Unicorn, you will enjoy pure peace of mind.

The two-chamber tube has two separate chambers that are independent from each other. One is the air and other is the liquid chamber. The newly developed anti-puncture sealant gel is sealed in the chamber located on the tyre tread side during the manufacturing process. As the sealant chamber is always pressed against the tyre by the pressure from the air chamber, when there occurs a hole, the sealant gel enters in the hole and closes it.
This shows how the two-chamber tube closes the hole. Usually in an event of a puncture, a hole is pierced through the sealant gel chamber to the air chamber. When a hole occurs, the gel is forced into the hole, and the fibrous material contained in the gel is squeezed out. At that time, the fine ceramic particles fill the openings of the fiber, and the vacant spaces are filled with the gel. As there is a pressure inside of the inner tube, minimal quantity seeps into the air chamber but without causing any harm as it is a water based gel.

This shows a picture of the cross-section of the hole closed by the newly developed anti-puncture sealant gel, taken after the sealant gel oozes out, dries and seals the puncture.

Just press clutch in the same gear and self start button. Now depending upon the condition, the rider can shift gear and move straight away.








DURABILITY AND MAINTENANCE




Unicorn confirms to stringent Honda endurance tests for engine, suspension, frame and electricals. These tests are done simulating extreme conditions concentrated with in a short test cycle. At the time of repair, without unloading the engine from the frame, the cylinder and cylinder head can be removed. This substantially reduces the time of repair. User not only gets better availability of bike but also saves on cost of repair.
Though it is an innovative technology, Tuff up tube is easy to repair and with some simple precautions, it can be repaired at any repair shop or by road side mechanic.
