BULLET MACHISMO 500 RULES THE ROAD:

The Machismo 500 has benefited from Austrian firm AVL’s technology, to gain a higher 8.5:1 compression ratio, and Constant Velocity carburettor. Improvements over the older Bullet 500 configuration are a flat piston head, improved valve geometry, larger cooling fins as well as a Transistor Coil Ignition system rather than the outgoing CB points. Peak power is up by 2bhp with 24bhp made at 5600rpm. Maximum torque on offer is a sizeable 4.1kgm low in the powerband at 3000rpm.

The gearbox shifts through five speeds, in the universal one-down-and-four-up pattern operated by the left leg as common on modern bikes. However, the new Machismo, which runs an exposed final-drive chain, has a kick-lever that annoyingly interferes with rider legroom.

The new Machismo sounds a lot more metallic than the older 500, thanks to it switching to an alloy cylinder. It suffers a painfully hard clutch and whimsical gearshift with neutral a chore to locate. While 24bhp may sound like a lot on paper, it’s woeful for this large an engine. Power delivery is far superior to the older 500, yet vibration levels remain disturbingly high. Top speed is disappointing at a mere 130kph. The new bike can however boast of improved acceleration over the older 500. We managed to take it from rest to 60kph in 4.75 seconds, and past the 100kph barrier in 13.6sec. The handlebar is flat and well positioned, with the footrests broad and comfortable as well. Absolutely nobody will feel cramped on a Machismo 500, with even the largest and tallest of frames effortlessly swallowed into a wide and well-padded saddle. While ride quality is at best, and often a bit too stiff, in a straight-line the new Machismo feels brilliant, with almost car-like stability on offer even at high speeds of around 100kph

. Its large 280mm single front disc, coupled with a drum at the rear, succeeded in bringing the behemoth to rest from 60kph in no more than 17.47 metres. Brake feel at the lever, as well as a tendency for the front of the bike to wallow under hard braking, can improve. The heavy machine delivered 29.3 kilometres per litre (kpl) through crowded city traffic and 33.3kpl on the highway.

Future plans of General Motors India

It is to be noted that General Motors India are planning big eventhough their parent group are going through bankrupt in the US. Very recently they have launched the LPG version of the Chevrolet Spark in India and now they are all set to launch the luxury sedan Chevrolet Cruze in September and a mini car by the end of this year.

General Motors India have already invested $300 million in a manufacturing plant in the same locality that produces 1.4 lakh units a year. The company has another facility at Halol in Gujarat that has a production capacity of 85,000 units a year. They have also announced an investment of $200 million for constructing an engine transmission plant of 200,000 units per annum capacity at Talegaon.

Though General Motors India are claiming that they are unaffected despite its parent filing for bankruptcy protection, it is clear that they are severely facing difficulties in raising funds for completing its engine manufacturing plant at Talegaon in Maharashtra.

Mitsubishi Aims to Cut i-MiEV Costs

Mitsubishi Motors Corp., the maker of the i MiEV electric car, plans to cut the vehicle’s purchase price by more than half to less than 2 million yen ($21,000) as government incentives and tighter emission rules boost demand for fuel-efficient cars.
According to Bloomberg, the company will cut the i MiEV’s price tag by the “mid- 2010s,” President Osamu Masuko said at the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting in Tokyo. The price target includes tax breaks and subsidies from the government, he added. The carmaker will start selling the i MiEV in July for 4.6 million yen.

Alfa Romeo Milano: Running Test

The official presentation of the Milano could take place as early as the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, but chances are that Alfa will probably wait for the Geneva Show in March 2010. Ssangyong C200 Eco Concept

Ssangyong will be showing an almost production-ready example of its new C200 crossover utility car at the Seoul Motor Show in South Korea, opening on April 2.

The company says that the C200 unveiled at the show will closely resemble the production C200 scheduled to be launched later this year. SsangYong will also show a new diesel hybrid version of the Kyron.

SsangYong's diesel hybrid technology applies an e-motor to an advanced direct injection diesel engine, with a high-voltage battery supplying electric power to the e-motor. The Torque Split Device (TSD), independently developed by SsangYong, is also applied to combine or cut off the power of the e-motor, thereby enabling hybrid driving.

The C200 concept was first unveiled at the Paris show last October and is the first new model in the broadening of the SsangYong range. The C200 is a modern, contemporary urban passenger car with styling by Giugiaro's ItalDesign in Italy. It is similar in size to a Toyota RAV4, a Honda CRV and a Nissan Qashqai and with a 2,640mm wheelbase, is slightly longer than a VW Tiguan.

The C200 differs from current SsangYong models in that it uses monocoque construction to ensure a passenger car look, feel and comfort. The platform is adaptable, and the chassis can be used for front wheel drive and four wheel drive passenger cars.

The drivetrain is completely new. An advanced 2.0 litre diesel engine has been designed for lower noise levels and reduced vibration. The engine produces 175 hp and complies with Euro V exhaust emissions requirements as well as producing lower CO2 levels. Manual and automatic transmissions are likely to be available, with the show car having a six-speed auto.

Extensive use of aluminium suspension components reduces weight and together with a low centre of gravity, ensures a comfortable and compliant ride with the kind of sharp and agile handling demanded by European drivers.

Honda has just announced that it will build a production model based on the V4 Concept.

Honda stated:

"The exciting news of the V4 production model is the result of overwhelming response from customers, media and motorcycle dealers across Europe following the debut of the V4 Concept Model at last month's Intermot show, where the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer chose 'New Beginnings' as its theme to celebrate Honda's 60th anniversary as a company, 50th anniversary of racing and 30th anniversary of the Honda's iconic V4 engine configuration.

"Building on this theme at this week's Milan Show, Honda highlighted the next stage of the V4 story and looked forward to the next 60 years of motorcycle production, with V4 technology forming a part of the marque's future direction in the coming few years, starting in just 18 months time with the introduction of the first V4 mass-production model in the first half of 2010."

Peugeot Celebrate The 75th Anniversary With New 308 CC

Peugeot will celebrate the 75th anniversary of its invention of the retractable steel roof when it launches the new 308 CC next month.

The 308 CC was first unveiled in Australia at Sydney’s Australian International Motor Show last year, and was the star of Peugeot’s stand at the Melbourne International Motor Show earlier this year.

The 308 CC replaces the highly successful 307 CC which, along with the 206 CC, brought folding hardtop technology to the masses early this decade.

The new car improves on the 307 CC in every way. It features more cabin and boot space, a more luxurious interior, and a wider range of engine and transmission choices.

These features include Peugeot’s world-first side head airbags which deploy to cushion the occupant’s head in the event of a collision. The innovation is one of a raft of safety features that comprise a five-star EuroNCap rating.

The Airwave neck heating system emits warm air around the occupant’s neck and shoulders, making open top motoring an option even on the coldest days.

2010 Chevrolet Equinox

The Chevrolet Equinox is a midsize SUV offering five-passenger seating and a relatively low price of entry of $23,185. Now in its second generation, beginning with the 2010 model year, the 'ute has an all-new look and improved features.

The vehicle comes equipped with a 2.4-liter direct-injection four-cylinder Ecotec engine delivering 182 horsepower at 6,700 rpm and 172 pound-feet of torque at 4,900 rpm. That's about as much horsepower as the previous generation's 3.4-liter V6, though torque is down from the 210 lb-ft that engine offered. As a trade-off, fuel economy will rise considerably. The entry-level mill promises to deliver an EPA rating of 30 mpg on the highway and 21 in the city.

GM is also offering the new Equinox with a 3.0-liter V6 delivering 264 horsepower and 214 lb-ft of torque as an optional upgrade. Also featuring direct injection, the motor has an isolated fuel injector system that promises quieter operation than other DI engines. Rubber isolators are used with the fuel rail to eliminate metal-to-metal contact that would otherwise transmit noise and vibration from the high-pressure fuel system. GM says that engine will achieve 25 mpg on the highway and 18 mpg in the city. The 3.0 offers the same horsepower rating as the old 3.6-liter V6.

The Equinox's interior has been significantly improved over its predecessor.

Volvo Starts Selling 2010-Compliant Trucks

Volvo Trucks North America said Tuesday it has begun selling heavy-duty trucks that meet new U.S. emissions standards slated to take effect in 2010.

By mid-June, customers had placed orders via distributors for about 50 trucks using selective catalytic reduction technology to need the new standards, Volvo said.

The trucks will meet the Environmental Protection Agency regulations using SCR, which Volvo said boosts fuel efficiency and reduces carbon emissions. Initial production is scheduled for this fall.

Volvo said that by beginning the process early, its New River Valley plant in Dublin, Va., can begin producing trucks that can meet the new standards prior to the regulations taking effect next year.

The plant’s production processes have been modified in recent months in preparation for 2010 and to enhance the efficiency and quality of manufacturing, Volvo said in a statement.

Zen is the car which is mostly liked by the all family around India from the early 90's. But now the situation had changed and the advanced technology had come. So for this competent world Maruti suzuki had launched its one of the new car ie, the Zen estilo. Now apart from the technology they had made greater importance for the design also.

The new car is actually called Suzuki MR Wagon in Japan and few other countries. Zen Estilo is new version of Maruti Zen - Maruti’s premium compact car. Maruti Zen Estilo borrows heavily from the original Suzuki MR Wagon and has been redesigned to suit Indian conditions. Zen Estilo is now taller and offers more boot space and better air conditioning. It delivers 64 bhp of power and its low torque make it ideal for Indian city conditions. Zen Estilo has looks like a miniaturized family van because of its smooth flowing, simple and monoform design. Since it’s built on the same wheelbase and uses the same seats, legroom and space offered are identical to that of the new WagonR.

Zen Estilo comes with premium, good-looking interiors. It’s two-tone colour theme and redesigned seats provide better support and sport fresh new upholstery to match the dual tone colour theme of the interior. The rear seats are comfortable and under thigh support is also decent but it is nowhere near the cars in the same class like the Indica, Palio or even the Santro. Zen Estilo has a 5 speed manual transmission, fed to a 1061cc 4-cylinder in-line engine. The engine is capable of providing 64bhp of power at 6200rpm and a torque of 8.56kgm at 3500rpm. With a fuel tank of 30 liters, the Estilo is perfect for a long day on the highway.

The Zen Estilo uses a McPherson strut with torsion type control system for its front suspension. The rear suspension uses Coil Spring, gas filled shock absorbers with three-link rigid trailing arm. These ensure that the Estilo swallows up the potholed Indian roads with ease, making it perfect for city driving.The Zen Estilo uses ventilated discs for its front suspension and drum brakes for the rear suspension. With a wheelbase of 2360mm the Estilo is a bit smaller than the old Zen. This provides better handling and makes the car nippy, which provides that extra edge required to drive in Indian City conditions.

The new Zen Estilo comes with a choice of 145 or 155mm tires, which varies with the model. Learning from its mistake with the Suzuki swift Maruti is offering normal spare tires instead of the space saver tires.Overall the New Maruti Suzuki Zen Estilo priced at Rs.3.26 lakh(ex-cochin), provides very good value for money, and to satisfy that wild side a nippy car.
