Hyundai To Build i20 in Turkey

Hyundai Motor has reported that the i20 hatchback for Europe will be manufactured at Hyundai Turkey Izmit plant starting from May 2010 and will be exported to European countries.

The company has said that i20 will be produced at the plant with an additional investment of $75 million. Five-door versions of i20 will be produced in Turkey. The investment will contribute to the Turkish economy by creating 500 new jobs.

The plant currently produces four-door editions of the Accent and the Matrix multi-purpose vehicle. Total manufacturing capacity at the plant will be raised to 100,000 units per annum with 80,000 devoted to the i20.

Hyundai Motor India will continue to build three and four-door versions of the i20 as well as right hand drive versions. Hyundai i20 will be sold in Turkey with four different engines and three different trim levels. The i20 has 78PS 1.2-liter and 100PS 1.4-liter CVVT gasoline engines and a 1.4-liter CRDi diesel with either 75PS or 90PS power.
